Earlier this month in the few interviews for the local and national media outlets Dr. Will Sawyer, Tri-State Internist, suggests that face shield is not only an alternative to face mask but a better solution in protection against coronavirus.
“These [Doctor holds up his fingers] are the 10 most deadly weapons, which is why you do not want to touch your ‘t-zone,’ your eyes, nose and mouth,” Sawyer said. “I am adamant,” he said, that a school must implement the harm-reduction strategy that we have developed. They must wear full face shields for their protection.
The family doctor argues that a face shield is easier and less distracting to use while working. He also notes they allow students to see their teachers and teachers to see students, without interfering with eyeglasses.
Dr. Sawyer is a huge proponent for better hand hygiene and has spent the last two decades talking about infectious diseases. He started the Henry the Hand Foundation to create educational materials for children.
