“If you wear a complete face shield is a mask still required?” a viewer asked News 13’s I-Team Coronavirus Help Desk.
North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services said, “Face shield that covers the nose and mouth also meets the face-covering requirements of the executive order.” If you wear a face shield, a mask is not required.
So as long as the plastic face shields are made to wrap around the sides of the face and extend below the chin, they are an allowed substitute for individuals who have difficulties wearing a cloth face covering.
Why aren’t there face shields that also cover the ears? They should wrap around the face for ear protection too.
